I’m Andy Renard, an artist with a passion for exploring the intersections of art, emotion, and storytelling. I was born in Växjö, Sweden, but my journey has taken me far beyond the borders of my homeland. Over the years, I’ve lived in diverse and vibrant cities such as Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Buenos Aires, each leaving an indelible mark on my artistic vision.
These experiences have shaped not only who I am but also the art I create. The places I’ve lived and the countless destinations I’ve visited have served as constant sources of inspiration. From the bustling streets of Hong Kong to the sunlit shores of Los Angeles and the rich culture of Buenos Aires, every corner of the world I’ve encountered finds its way into my creative work.
My artistic journey has been as diverse as my travels. In addition to painting, I have explored the realms of digital illustration and photography, capturing moments and emotions in a variety of mediums. Each discipline has allowed me to express myself in unique ways, whether through the vivid detail of a digital illustration, the evocative stillness of a photograph, or the layered textures of a painted canvas.
Beyond visual art, I also compose music, finding yet another way to tell stories and evoke feelings. Music, much like painting, allows me to translate my inner world into something tangible, something that can be shared and felt. For me, the creative process is not confined to one form or medium—it’s an ever-evolving journey of discovery and self-expression.
My paintings often reflect the landscapes, cultures, and emotions I’ve encountered along the way. I strive to capture the essence of life’s contrasts—the vibrant and the subdued, the serene and the chaotic, the known and the mysterious. Through color, form, and texture, I hope to evoke emotions that resonate with viewers, sparking a connection that goes beyond the surface.
About my style
My work can be described as contemporary figurative expressionism with a psychological focus.
I begin with the human figure and familiar scenes, but use color, form and distortion to express emotional states rather than simply represent reality.
Some paintings are quiet and contemplative, while others become more raw, distorted or unsettling. This variation is intentional — different emotions require different visual languages.
At the core of my work is an interest in what lies beneath the surface: tension, vulnerability and the unseen layers of human experience. By allowing the familiar to shift or break, the work invites the viewer to interpret and feel, rather than just observe.
