Testing my own fine art print shop as a customer
Last Thursday, I decided to do something I honestly think more artists should do — I tested my own webshop as if I were a regular customer.
Not just by clicking around for a few minutes, but by placing a real order from start to finish. I wanted to experience the entire process myself. How easy is the shop to use? Was the checkout smooth ? How fast is production and shipping? What does the packaging feel like? And most importantly: does the print quality actually live up to the standard I want to stand behind?
So I ordered a small fine art print from my own shop at Andy Renard Art.
The order itself was never meant to be anything dramatic. It was simply a test.
But the result genuinely surprised me in a very positive way.

A surprisingly smooth shopping experience
The first thing I noticed was how easy the entire buying process felt.
When you spend months building your own website, adjusting layouts, writing product texts, organizing categories, and tweaking design details, it becomes difficult to see the site the way a normal visitor does.
But when I went through the process as a customer, everything felt clean, intuitive, and straightforward.
Finding the artwork was simple. Choosing the size was easy. Checkout worked immediately without any problems. The entire experience felt modern and smooth — exactly how an online shop should feel.
And honestly, that matters.
Because even though art is emotional, expressive, and creative, the buying experience still needs to feel trustworthy and uncomplicated.
Nobody wants to struggle through a confusing webshop just to buy a piece of art.
Print on demand – no warehouse, no unnecessary stock
One of the biggest advantages of the shop is that the prints are produced on demand.
That means every print is created only after someone places an order. There is no giant warehouse filled with unsold posters waiting on shelves somewhere.
Instead, each artwork is printed individually and shipped directly to the customer.
That creates several advantages:
- More artworks can remain available at the same time
- Multiple sizes can be offered without storage costs
- Production becomes more flexible
- Fewer resources are wasted on unsold inventory
- Shipping can often be surprisingly fast
And the speed was actually the next pleasant surprise.
Fast production and delivery
Already the following day, I received confirmation that the print had entered production.
Shortly after that came another update — the package had already been shipped.
Then on Monday, it arrived at my local pickup point ready to collect.
So from placing the order to having the print physically delivered only took a few days, even though the artwork was produced specifically for that order.
That honestly felt impressive.

First impressions when the package arrived
There is something special about receiving a package containing art.
Even though this was technically “just” my own test order, I was genuinely curious while opening it. I wanted to see how the presentation felt, how well protected the print was, and how the colors looked in real life compared to on a screen.
The packaging felt solid and professional. Nothing about it felt cheap or careless.
And that is especially important with art prints. People are not simply buying an image — they are buying an experience and something that may hang on their wall for years.
The print quality genuinely impressed me
The most important part, of course, was the actual print quality.
And this was where I became honestly impressed.
The paper feels thick and premium. The colors reproduce beautifully, and the level of detail remained excellent even in the small size I ordered.
One thing that often worries me about prints is that they can sometimes feel flat or lifeless compared to original paintings. But this print still carried depth, atmosphere, and a strong sense of the original artwork.
To be honest, it exceeded my expectations.
Fine Art Prints and Framed Prints
The shop currently offers both standard fine art prints and framed prints.
Fine Art Prints
The regular fine art prints are ideal if you:
- want to frame the artwork yourself
- already own frames at home
- want full freedom over presentation and style
- prefer a more affordable option
Framed Prints
Framed prints arrive professionally framed and ready to hang directly on the wall.
They are perfect if you:
- want a more complete and premium presentation
- prefer not to deal with framing yourself
- are buying art as a gift
- want the artwork ready to display immediately
Original paintings and prints can exist together
One thing that matters to me is that prints are not meant to replace original paintings.
Original artworks will always remain something unique. The texture, brushstrokes, layers of paint, and physical presence can never be fully replicated.
But prints serve a different purpose.
They make art more accessible. More people can enjoy an artwork they connect with, even when the original piece is already sold or beyond their budget.
And I honestly think that is a good thing.
Making art more accessible
Sometimes I feel that the art world makes things unnecessarily complicated.
As if buying art requires entering a silent gallery with the “right” clothes, the “right” education, or the “right” background.
I do not really like that idea.
To me, art should live in real homes. On real walls. In living rooms, studios, bedrooms, offices, and creative spaces.
And that is exactly why I like the idea of a modern webshop where people can easily order both fine art prints and framed prints online.
