About Expressionism
Expressionism is an artistic approach that places emotional truth above objective reality. Rather than attempting to reproduce the world exactly as it appears, expressionist artists seek to communicate feelings, moods, and psychological experiences through color, form, texture, and composition.
Emerging in the early twentieth century, expressionism challenged traditional ideas of realism by emphasizing personal perception and emotional intensity. Colors may become exaggerated, forms distorted, and perspectives altered in order to convey an inner reality rather than an external one.
The expressionist paintings in this collection explore themes such as memory, identity, relationships, loss, longing, and the complexity of human emotions. Many of the works combine figurative elements with symbolic imagery, allowing emotional experiences to take visual form.
Expressionist art invites viewers to engage with a painting on an emotional level. Rather than asking what is being depicted, it often encourages the question: what is being felt?
These paintings reflect an ongoing exploration of the inner world, where emotions, memories, and imagination become an essential part of the visual language.
