About Nude
Nude art has been part of artistic expression for thousands of years, using the human body to explore beauty, vulnerability, identity, intimacy, and the experience of being human. The nude can be both a physical subject and a way of expressing something far beyond the body itself.
Throughout art history, artists have approached the nude through realism, idealisation, abstraction, symbolism, and experimentation. The human figure can appear confident or fragile, sensual or uncomfortable, familiar or strangely distant.
The artworks presented here explore the nude primarily as part of figurative and narrative painting. Bodies may be distorted, simplified, exposed, or partially hidden, allowing posture, gesture, colour, and composition to communicate emotions that are difficult to express through words.
Nudity can also change the relationship between the figure and the viewer. Without clothing, status and social identity can become less obvious, leaving something more immediate and vulnerable behind.
These works use the nude human figure as part of a broader exploration of relationships, identity, emotion, sexuality, vulnerability, and personal storytelling.
