About Reflection
Reflection in art can describe both something we see and something we experience internally. A reflection may appear literally in a mirror, window, or surface of water, but it can also represent memory, self-examination, uncertainty, or the way we look back at our own lives.
Artists have long used reflections to question what is real and what is perceived. Mirrors can reveal something hidden, distort an image, create another version of a person, or allow the viewer to see a scene from more than one perspective.
The artworks presented here explore reflection in both its visual and psychological meanings. Figures may appear absorbed in thought, confronted by themselves, or caught between the present and something remembered. In other works, reflections and repeated forms become part of the composition itself.
Reflection often creates a pause within a painting. Instead of depicting action, it can capture the moment before or after something happens — when a person thinks, remembers, doubts, regrets, or simply observes.
These works combine reflection with figurative painting, symbolism, memory, psychology, and personal storytelling.
